I can’t say I ever thought that sculpture and watercolor
could be cohesively combined in such a way as they do at the Rednose Studio.
Personally, I love the way that they use clay modeling and small found objects
as the subjects of their work, then create a background using abstract color
combinations and patterns.
As I continued looking over the Rednose Studio website, I
noticed that their clients are not necessarily ones who I thought would fit with
their particular style. One that stands out to me was a piece they did for a
life insurance company that caters specifically to the elderly. I would not at
first glance have considered the artwork Rednose produces as fitting for such
an advertisement, but as I continued to examine the work, I began to see how it
not only fit, but fit well.
Finally, I decided to check out the Rednose Studio blog. The first thing I noticed was that they do not just post their finished work; in fact, they hardly post finished work on their blog at all. Instead, it seems that their blog is reserved for sketches and “works-in-progress.” I find this idea appealing- let people see the processes that go into the creation of your work, and they have more invested in wanting to see the final product. This is definitely something I will try on my blog, although I cannot guarantee too much in the way of preliminary sketches being posted.
Anyways, Rednose Studio seems to do an effective job of combining their art and illustration with business savvy and commercial success. I encourage you to check them out!
